Child Custody and Support
Family law cases involving child custody and support can be especially challenging. While many parents resolve their legal issues and continue to effectively co-parent, many others do not. The children often suffer from being caught in the middle.
As a parent, I understand that you want the best for your children. I work hard to resolve child custody and support cases efficiently and cooperatively, attaining a resolution that is in your child's best interest. When necessary, I will take your case to the courtroom and argue tenaciously on your behalf.
I represent parents and grandparents in family law cases involving—
Custody and visitation
It is very important for children to spend time with the people who love them—especially those who are raising or have helped raise them. Suddenly being cut off from a parent can be very difficult for a child. It can also be upsetting for the adult.
If you are facing a child custody battle, I can help. Since 1977, I have assisted families during this difficult transition. I fight for your children as if they were my own. I work directly with you to keep you involved in your case. I get to know you and understand your circumstances before developing a strategy for your child custody or visitation case. It is usually in the child's best interest to resolve the issue through mediation or other alternative legal techniques, but if taking the case to court is necessary, I do that as well.
Child support
When parents split up, the courts must determine each adult's financial responsibility to the child. Texas provides strict guidelines for child support payments; however the court considers circumstances specific to each case. For instance, one parent may have a much higher income than the other. Or one parent may be responsible for housing the child while the other pays for the child's health insurance. Other parents may share physical custody of their son or daughter and therefore share the financial responsibility more equally as well.
I learn the facts of your case and then determine the aspects that a judge may consider in the decision. This allows us to plan an effective legal strategy before we reach court.
Fathers' rights
When a couple ends their relationship, it is often the mother who retains physical custody of any children. But fathers have rights, too. Your child needs you and you are entitled to be a part of his or her life. In addition to your financial responsibilities, you have the right to spend time with your child. Even if you are unable to pay your child support, the custodial parent cannot interfere with your court-ordered visitation or contact with your child. You need a lawyer who understands Texas law and how it affects fathers' rights. As a father, I understand how important this is to you and I am prepared to help you protect your relationship with your child.
Adoptions and terminations
Adoption is a complex area of law. Even cases that seem simple on the surface can quickly become complicated. Biological parents must relinquish or have their parental rights terminated by the court before a child is eligible for adoption. This is often the case when a stepparent wishes to adopt their stepchild. The termination of parental rights is very serious, and I have represented clients on both sides of the issue. I know how to present your case to a judge in order to attain a positive outcome.
